Jessica Sutton-Serving Others

“I feel honored to receive the award for “serving others”. Service has always been a driving force in my life; it is my love language.”

Jessica is a licensed social worker at Churn Creek Healthcare. She has lived in Northern California since 1992. She received a Master of Social Work Degree from CSU, Chico in 2004. Later, after marriage, having four children and just as many job changes, she completed the LCSW.

Any advice for future award winners?

Crying when your name is called is okay!

Fun fact about you…..

I had my right ACL replaced last year….with a cadaver graft.(Kinda cool, kinda gross!)

Which sports team(s) do you root for?

I am a big fan of Rafael Nadal. He’s a lefty, like me.

Do you play any musical instruments?

No! Musicians need fans, right?

What is your favorite movie?

There are so many genres. My go-to feel good movie is About Time!

What’s next on your bucket list?

This summer, my family and I plan to visit five national parks.

Jolene Kingsley-Balancing Life

“I was shocked and humbled when I received this year’s guiding value award for Balancing Life.”

Dr. Jolene Kingsley is the medical director at Trinity HealthCare. She was born in Salt Lake City, but raised in Santa Rosa and graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Nutrition Science. She got her DO from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. She has lived in Redding since she couples-matched family practice with her husband Chad at Mercy Hospital in 2000. They have two teenage daughters and a preteen son as well as three very diffrent dogs.

Which sports team (s) do you root for?

I’m a huge soccer fan and I have seen my favorite team, the US Women’s Soccer win the World Cup in Vancouver in 2015.

Which is your favorite movie?

I loved the movie Crazy Rich Asians and look forward to the sequels.

An achievement that you are proud of?

I have had some epic family hiking/adventure vacations in Canada, Thailand, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia and Mount Blanc. (Switzerland, France, Italy)

Fun fact about you…

I have three blond kids, all speak Mandarin Chinese yet were too shy to try it out at the Hong Kong airport on the way to Thailand.

What’s next on your bucket list?

I’m currently trying to pick out my next international adventure.

Have you ever (would you ever) skydive?

My first date with my husband in 1988 was sky diving…..I held the keys while he jumped, and I will stick with zip lining myself!

Janna Howard-Working Together

Janna Howard is the Family and Children case worker in the Community Services Department. She grew up in Northern California.

Randy Bachman-Embracing Change

“I am extremely proud to have received the guiding value award for Embracing Change. Redding Rancheria has been a wonderful place to work over the past 12 years and I have has the opportunity to do many interesting projects. I like to be helpful and put my energy into whatever the organization might need at any given time.”

Randy Bachman is the Senior Financial Analyst at the Redding Rancheria. He was born in the Southern California and later moved with his family to Shasta County when he was just three years old. He attended school in Anderson and graduated from Anderson High School. He attended Shasta College before transferring to CSU Sacramento where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree.

What are you proud of…..?

I am proud to have ten beautiful grandchildren.

Fun fact about you….

I was a league and section wrestling champion in High School.

Which sports team (s) do you root for?

I am a long-time fan of the San Francisco 49ers (easy right now), Sacramento Kings (not as easy), and San Francisco Giants (downright tough right now).

Do you play any musical instruments?

I can play the radio, but no instruments.

What is your favorite movie?

The Graduate

What’s next on your bucket list?

Travelling to Australia and New Zealand.

Have you ever (would you ever) skydive?

I am a licensed pilot and see no reason to jump out of a plane if it’s not on fire.

One movie or novel you wish there was a sequel for?

I’m not a fan of sequels. They rarely live up to the original.

Any advice for future award winners?

My advice to all Redding Rancheria employees is to appreciate their jobs and the organization for which they work. Recognition may or may not come, but if you put forth your best efforts, chances are that it will come!

Karel Couch-Doing What’s Right

“I am honored to receive this award because this is the same way the Surveillance room is ran. Do what is right even though you know no one is watching you!”

Karel Couch was born in Red Bluff. He moved to Redding at the age of two and has lived here ever since. He attended Shasta High School and graduated in the class of 83. He has worked in Lumber Mills, bars as a bouncer and started working in Surveillance at Redding Rancheria since 1998.

Any advice to future award winners?

To future award winners, this award shows that you took pride in your job/work. Never expect an award for going your job, but always take pride in it.

What are you proud of?

I am most proud of my wife. She has kept me going when I was done. She has lifted me up when I was down. I’m aspiring to be more motivated and she is pushing me to be.

Fun fact about you…..

Years ago I was playing in a city wide dart tournament and my team took 1st place.

Which sports team(s) do you root for?

The teams I root for are the Seattle Seahawks and the San Jose Sharks.

Which is your favorite movie?

Heavy Metal, it is an old movie but has great sound track.

What’s next on your bucket list?

I would like to river raft through the Grand Canyon.

Todd Gandy-Respecting Others

“It was very rewarding to be chosen as a Guiding Value Award winner. I am proud of the work I have done here and the great things that my department has achieved. Working with the Rancheria has been the most fulfilling job I have ever had, and I don’t think anywhere else could ever top it.”

Dr. Todd Gandy is the Director of the Dental Department at Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Clinic. He grew up in Palo Cedro and attended Enterprise High School. His family has been in Redding for five generations with his two daughters now in the sixt generation living in Shasta County. He attended school at UC Davis and became a Mechanical Engineer. After a few years, he realized he had missed his true calling and returned to UOP School of Dentistry for a DDS Degree and returned to Redding in 2006 to work, now as a Dentist.

Which sports team do you root for?

I don’t watch sports or root for any sports teams. But for a long time, I used to tell people my teams were the Giants and the 49ers because I lived in San Francisco for long time, and when people would ask it was easier than trying to explain that I didn’t watch sports.

Which is your favorite movie?

I feel comedies are the best. Spaceballs is probably one of the greatest movies ever. You should watch it, if you haven’t seen it!
